Oreo X Coke - 9/5/2024

I go hunting for Halloween things, and I see a stark black & white design on some cans of soda. Certainly, this must be some spooky themed tie-in, but no. Out of the blue, we get a Coke X Oreo edition smack in peak season. Now maybe the start of September isn’t peak season for some, but I consider anything after late July to be primetime for accelerating towards Halloween. Since we’ve passed August completely, I’m naturally in full panic mode that I’m falling way behind, so I don’t need these false flags getting in my way.

Cookie Coke seems like a gross combination, so naturally I picked up the six-pack. I do like the can design, not that I need six of them, but the collection must absorb anything and everything that I come across.

The only thing left to do was taste it. I wasn’t looking forward to this, but in truth it wasn’t too bad. I knew it tasted familiar, and realized it was pretty close to one of the recent concept flavors from Feb 2023 – the Rosalia or MOVE edition or something. Nailing down the name at the time was a feat, so recalling it now isn’t much more productive. It does have a distinct cookies-and-cream aftertaste, but otherwise fits neatly into the caramel or chocolate soda categories.

Easy pass unless you’re into flavors like this. I didn’t finish the mini-can.

And I totally didn’t add this next part after initially uploading this mini-article.

Coke and Oreo teamed up both ways, so while Coke had the displeasure of adding cookie flavor to their battery acid, Oreo got to tint their cookies with some cola root and cocaine, or whatever is in soda. And I have to say, it works so much better in this context.

A while back, there was a generic Cherry Cola edition which carried with it some popping candy to simulate carbonation. It was an oasis in the sea of random Oreo limited editions, so much that I bought a ton when then went on clearance. That sort of backfired since eating them means I don’t have them anymore, but not eating them to prevent that scenario means there wasn’t much point. However the Coke crossover cookies are almost exactly like that. Sure, no cherry, but I can forgive that if it means I’m not hoarding several year old snacks in my office.
