LEVELS

Didn't it seem like that you were completely into your game of Quake, aware of nothing else but
the amount of ammo you have left in your shotgun. Then you reach the end of the level, and you get your statistics and
then the jump to the next level. This end of the level experience completely ruined the surreal feeling that you were
actually inside the game. This won't happen with Half-Life, because there is only a slight pause between
levels which you will hardly know about. After you end a level, you don't just zap into a completely different environment,
you stay in the same place. So the ability of going back and forth through levels is not only possible, but it
is neccesary to finishthe game. Something that almost all Quake lovers will like to hear, is that Half-Life doesn't
have drab, boring, brown colors. Half-Life will usually have a bright environment. If you are a level maker junkie,
you will be glad to hear that Half-Life will be shipping with a new version of Worldcraft, and a number of prefabs.
This is great for people who like challenging people on their home turf. Three levels have been announced so far,
and they are The Portal Device, The Office Warrens, and The Security Complex.
These have been taken from the Gamespot preview.
| The Portal Device |
 |
You have been popped through the portal device and landed feet first in the portal control room. You have no weapons, save a crowbar, which, if you are smart you will use to pry stuff open. Run around a little and you will discover that you are not the first to pass through the portal. In fact, there seems to be a number of folks kept a specimens for observation and study, floating around. As you are wandering, check for grates and ducts - remember you have a crowbar and crowbars are meant to be used.
|
| The Office Warrens |
 |
There are monsters everywhere in this bleak environment. You are surrounded by office complexes in that drab, depressing style, and they are filled with drab, depressing civil servants. Jumping and crouching is the key to this level, as is figuring how to climb onto dificultly placed elevators. Oh, and a tip: if you see a ladder, climb it.
|
| The Security Complex |
 |
The Security Complex is where you will find the door to the Silo - you cannot get in just yet, but remember where it is. You are going to battle through tons of shock troops en route to an air- lock just the other side of them. This a level of catwalks - climb up to them any old way you figure out (two words for you: air and duct). And do not forget to do something about those big, ugly fans that will make mincemeat of you in mere instants.
