The Good Earth
by Daniel Thombs
All that we know,
comes from the Earth.
All that we use,
since the day of our birth.
Although Famine, war and plague,
cause pain and fuss.
The Earth gives us Food
and provides all for us.
Wang Lung bought pieces of land,
and used all he had.
It always made him happy,
when the rest made him mad.
He used to be a commoner,
with his old land.
But then he bought more,
and became quite grand.
He had enough to eat,
and more money to spend.
But he became cruel,
his morals on a downward trend.
His sons not knowing,
the importance of the Earth.
Sold it for money,
that's not what it's worth.
